Flagler Academics

The Palm Beach Day Academy Flagler Campus' academic program is designed to meet the developmental needs of children beginning at age two and continuing through third grade. Using a constructivist approach to learning, the goal is to prepare students for the ever-changing world of tomorrow by building upon a student's individual strengths.

At the Pre-Primary level (two year olds), a Montessori approach is embraced and students develop independence as well as a respect for self, others, and the environment. The Montessori classroom encourages students to have a love for learning, sense of curiosity, and increased concentration. At the Primary level (three and four year old multi-age classroom), a blended learning approach is utilized, combining Montessori techniques and materials with other developmentally appropriate practices endorsed by early childhood experts. In addition to classroom activities, students enjoy enhancements that include the Music Together® program, physical education, and storytelling as well as an introduction to Spanish (Primary level only). Pre-Primary and Primary children may opt for a half-day or full-day program.

In kindergarten through third grade, students build upon this strong foundation in a non-Montessori, student-centered environment that continues to encourage self-directed learning as well as the ability to contribute to the learning of others. Using an integrated thematic approach, core subjects are taught in self-contained settings by a team of two teachers. Subjects such as art, music, library skills, computers, physical education, and Spanish are taught by specialists. An emphasis on developing personal responsibility and strong interpersonal skills is fostered using the Lifeskills® program.
